"After recently purchasing a home in Lucerne, I called several insurance companies around the Lakeport area for insurance. Each company told me that they could not cover the home for fire, so I would also need the California Fair Plan. Unfortunately, both plans combined were triple of what I previously paid on my last home, which was a similar size and in the same fire zone. After a 2-day extensive search, I was about to give up and not insure my new home. However, I made one last call to State Farm and spoke with Bonnie Skee who informed me that I did not need a Fair Plan. I was so relieved, and am now highly recommending State Farm to those who live in the City of Lucerne (or in other cities around Lake County)! Just a side note that after getting several different extremely high quotes, I contacted the State Insurance Commission who said they were aware of what was occurring, and they are investigating the matter. Unfortunately, due to the most recent fires in California, insurance companies are either leaving the State, or passing on their loss to us consumers (whether you were in the fire areas or not).
